British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will visit Kyiv today. Aid to Ukraine is expected to be announced
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will visit Kyiv today, January 12. He will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Sunak will announce a new military aid package during his visit. The UK will provide £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2024-2025 (more than $3 billion).
About £200 million (more than $255 million) will be spent on drones, in particular reconnaissance, strike and long-range maritime drones. This will be the largest supply of drones to Ukraine from any country.
The British Prime Minister will also announce the provision of security guarantees. Sunak will sign an agreement with Zelensky on security cooperation. It provides for intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, medical and military training, and military-industrial cooperation.
During his visit to Kyiv, the Prime Minister will meet with rescue workers who are dealing with the consequences of Russian strikes and announce the allocation of additional funding for humanitarian support.
The UK will also provide additional funding and resources for English language learning in Ukraine.
It is worth noting that the UK was one of the first countries to support Ukraine at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. London has provided military, financial and humanitarian support. In particular, we are talking about the transfer of Challenger 2 tanks, long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters.
